Patriot MK

2007 - 2017

On the outside the differences between the conservative Patriot and the relatively liberal Compass are significant. The classic angularity of the early Cherokee can be clearly seen here almost four decades later. However, in terms of size and engineering, the Jeep Patriot is nothing more than a twin brother to the Compass. The engines together with the gearboxes are the same, the suspension identical, and only 30 kilograms separate the Patriot from the Compass. Yet this Patriot is not just technically virtually identical to its stablemate the Compass.
The underlying concept, the GS platform, was developed years ago by Mercedes-Benz and Mitsubishi. And it is not just Jeep that benefits from this as the plant in Belvidere, Illinois (USA), also produces the technically related Dodge Caliber. It is also easy to guess from the Mitsubishi Outlander that engines and chassis are identical.

The range of engines offered in the Patriot for the German market is no different from that of the Compass. The smaller of the two gasoline engines with 1998 cm³ producing 156 HP (117 kW) is less suitable for off-road adventures as it is only available with front-wheel drive and comes with continuously variable transmission (CVT) as standard.
The four-wheel drive versions either have a gasoline engine with 2359 cm³ and 170 HP (125 kW) or a turbodiesel power unit that has served up 163 HP (120 kW) from 2143 cm³ since 2011. And that is more than sufficient for anyone, provided they avoid rough terrain.
