2006 -
Despite its markedly curved design acknowledging the traditional Jeep brand the Compass, which debuted in 2006 at the Detroit Motor Show, also represented a technical revolution. For the first time the motor was mounted transversely and in the basic version only drove the front wheels for those drivers shy of off-road travel. Increased traction in the form of permanent four-wheel drive was only available in the USA as an option whereas in Germany all four wheels were powered.
