Grand Cherokee WH/WK

2005 - 2010

This generation of the Grand Cherokee consolidated its position in the top league of sport utility vehicles with a new, again more stately body with 4820 mm length and a wheelbase of 2915 millimeters. There was generous space for five passengers and the trunk offered between 780 and 1555 liters of volume.

State-of-the-art technology under the self-supporting body ensured superior comfort. The front wheels, suspended from double wishbones shared with its predecessor, was now followed by a multi-link axle giving independent rear-wheel suspension. And air cushioning was also provided as an option to further improve the increased level of comfort.
The efforts of the technicians for this Grand Cherokee, however, were not just restricted to comfort. The engineers at Jeep paid attention to the general emphasis on SUVs that were not only able to overcome difficult terrain but which could also master winding roads at a sporting pace. The range of engines offered aimed in the same direction.
The power games started with a modern V6 engine with four overhead camshafts and four valves for each combustion chamber that achieved 210 HP (154 kW) from 3703 cm³. The highest level was provided by the V8 Hemi, a simple power unit in the classic American style of construction with a central camshaft and two valves per combustion chamber. Even so, the 5653 cm³ displacement delivered 330 HP (243 kW). The top-of-the-range Grand Cherokee SRT8 was home to a raging 6.1 l SRT HEMI V8 capable of producing 420 HP (309 kW).
Those Grand Cherokee owners wishing to drive a little more economically and yet fast could choose a modern V6 turbodiesel from Daimler with direct fuel injection, four overhead camshafts and four valves per combustion chamber. The 2987 cm³ of volume available was able to deliver a respectable 231 HP (170 kW).
