Wrangler YJ

1987 - 1995

The dictionary defines the term wrangler as a squabbler or a cowboy.
In Jeep’s 1987 data sheet Wrangler stands for a new epoch, but not in terms of technology since the Wrangler’s chassis was still based on leaf springs and fixed axles just like its predecessors almost five decades earlier. This endearingly ancient technology was enclosed in a generally more appealing body. Only the sharp look from rectangular headlights took the accustomed friendly note from the overall appearance.
Nevertheless, the power under the bonnet basically remained the same. The four-cylinder with 2464 cm³ had 106 HP (76 kW) first and later 121 HP (89 kW) . In 1987 the inline six-cylinder produced 115 HP (85 kW) from 4235 cm³, while a smaller injection engine from the same series followed in 1991 generating 184 HP (135 kW) from 3956 cm³ more economically.
